I remember when I crossed over to the dark side (insert Star Wars music). I was babysitting for my favorite family 😉 and after I put the kids to bed I saw, “The Beauty Detox Solution” by Kimberly Snyder laying on the table. I picked it up and started reading. I was hooked. Hooked as when my aunt was fishing and got a fish hook through her cheek when she was younger, but that is a different story for a different time :). It was definitely overwhelming and I knew I would not be able to make that many changes. I choose one thing to change and that was to start to my green smoothies!
The first time I made it, I had one sip and threw it out and thought “There’s no way!” Then I made it again and drank about half before dumping it down the drain. Then the next time, I drank the whole thing and now I can honestly say I enjoy the taste of it! That was six years ago. Since then the green smoothie has come and gone in my diet. I’ve gone through different phases of eggs and bacon, avocado toast, protein smoothies, oatmeal and now I am back to the green smoothie. I recently decided to revamp my eating habits after watching “What the Health” (It’s on Netflix) like many others and realized I was eating animal protein 2-3x a day. I mean why not?! I was having a lot of skin issues, I was working out 5-6x a day and wasn’t where I wanted to be. I figured it could not hurt. So out went meat and I have to say I haven’t missed it (I’ll have to do a separate post about this as I digress and could go on!). BACK TO MY SMOOTHIE!
Here is the recipe I use:
- Half a bunch of romain lettuce (I usually buy the packs of 3 at the store).
- 1-2 handfuls of spinach or kale or sometimes they have those smoothie blend packets.
- 1-2 celery stocks
- 1/2 pear
- 1/2 lemon juice
Optional – 1/2 banana, chia seeds, flax seeds, pretty much whatever else you would want to add
I have used a Vitamix and a NutriBullet I have been using the Nutribullet recently just because it doesn’t take up so much space on the counter, it’s A LOT less money and it get’s the job done. However, I’ve been wanting to go back to my vitamin because the NutriBullet starts to pour out when you’re mixing? Not sure if it’s just my blender or if this is a common theme?
Anywho! Anyone else have any different variations of a green smoothie they drink!?
